Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Family Program required?

Participation is encouraged, but not required. We recognize that every family situation is unique, and involvement depends on the needs, circumstances, and willingness of those involved.

  • Who can participate in the Family Program?

Family members, spouses, partners, adult children, siblings, and other significant support persons may participate. The clinical team can help determine who may be appropriate to attend.

  • Does my loved one need to be a current Meridian Health Services client?

Yes. The Family Program is designed to support the families and loved ones of individuals currently receiving services at Meridian Health Services.

  • What topics are discussed during the Family Program?

Topics may include understanding addiction and recovery, communication skills, healthy boundaries, relapse prevention, family dynamics, co-occurring mental health conditions, self-care, and strategies for supporting long-term recovery.

  • Will I receive information about my loved one's treatment?

Confidentiality laws protect client privacy. Information about a client's treatment can only be shared when appropriate releases of information have been completed and when permitted by applicable regulations.

  • Can the Family Program help me learn how to support my loved one without enabling them?

Yes. One of the primary goals of the program is helping families understand the difference between supporting recovery and enabling unhealthy behaviors while developing healthier communication and boundary-setting skills.

  • Do I need to have experience with recovery programs to participate?

No. Many participants have little or no prior knowledge of addiction, treatment, or recovery. The program is designed to provide education and support regardless of your experience level.

  • What if my relationship with my loved one has been damaged by addiction?

Many families enter the program feeling hurt, frustrated, or uncertain about the future. The Family Program provides education, support, and practical tools that can help families begin rebuilding trust and healthier relationships over time.

  • Is the Family Program confidential?

Participants are expected to respect the privacy of others. While the program provides a safe and supportive environment, confidentiality cannot be guaranteed outside of the treatment setting.

  • How do I learn more or get involved?
