CBT
Understanding the Connection Between Thoughts, Feelings, and Behaviors
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, commonly called CBT, is an evidence-based therapeutic approach that focuses on the relationship between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
During recovery, individuals may encounter automatic thoughts, learned behaviors, emotional responses, or coping patterns that contribute to substance use or make recovery more difficult.
CBT helps clients identify these patterns and develop healthier ways of thinking about and responding to challenging situations.
Through CBT-based interventions, clients can work on recognizing triggers, challenging unhelpful thought patterns, developing coping strategies, improving problem-solving skills, and practicing new behaviors that support recovery.
The skills developed through CBT are intended to be practical — tools individuals can continue using in everyday life beyond treatment.
