Equine Assisted Learning

Building Recovery Skills Through Experience and Connection

Some lessons are easier to understand when they are experienced rather than simply discussed.

Equine-assisted learning uses structured interactions with horses to create opportunities for clients to practice skills that can support recovery and everyday life.

Activities can encourage mindfulness, emotional awareness, communication, confidence, patience, healthy boundaries, problem solving, and trust. Because horses respond to behavior and nonverbal communication in the moment, working with them can provide immediate opportunities for reflection and learning.

Equine-assisted learning is experiential and skill-focused. It complements Meridian's clinical treatment by giving clients another environment in which to practice awareness, connection, and healthy ways of responding to challenges.

No previous experience with horses is necessary.
