How to Prepare for Inpatient Intake

Preparing ahead can make arrival easier. Once an admission is scheduled, follow the instructions provided by the admissions team because requirements may differ by program, location, medical need, and current safety policy.

Before arriving:

  • Confirm the location, arrival time, and transportation plan
  • Bring a photo ID and insurance or Medicaid information, if available
  • Provide an accurate list of current medications, allergies, and medical conditions
  • Bring medications only as instructed and in their original pharmacy-labeled containers
  • Arrange care for children, pets, housing, work, and other responsibilities
  • Leave valuables, unnecessary electronics, and prohibited items at home
  • Tell the admissions team about mobility, accessibility, language, dietary, or other accommodation needs before arrival
  • Call if health symptoms, substance use, medications, transportation, or arrival timing change before intake

Do not delay emergency medical care while waiting for a treatment admission. For severe withdrawal symptoms, overdose, chest pain, trouble breathing, seizure, loss of consciousness, severe confusion, or another medical emergency, call 911.
