Relapse Prevention
Recognize Risk. Build Skills. Create a Plan.
Recovery can include challenges, triggers, unexpected stress, and situations that test newly developed skills.
Relapse prevention helps individuals prepare for those moments before they happen.
Clients learn to identify personal triggers, warning signs, thought and behavior patterns, high-risk situations, and other factors that may increase vulnerability to returning to substance use.
Treatment also focuses on developing practical responses. This may include coping strategies, healthy routines, support systems, communication skills, problem solving, and plans for reaching out for help when additional support is needed.
Relapse prevention is not about expecting someone to fail. It is about helping individuals recognize risk earlier and giving them more tools for responding to it.
